Just Kids: Magnum Photographers on Youth Culture

Just Kids: Magnum Photographers on Youth Culture explores how Magnum photographers have documented youth culture in Britain and internationally from the 1960s to the present day.

Curated by Ekow Eshun, Just Kids celebrates the 70th anniversary of Magnum Photos, spanning Magnum’s archive and urging the viewer to look at it anew. The exhibition demonstrates the depth of insight that Magnum photographers have brought to the perennial – and necessarily transient – subject of being young. Youth itself is framed as performance, a means of standing apart from the mainstream and gleefully confounding expectations of respectability.

Featured photographers include Martin Parr, David Hurn on1980’s California and Chris Steele-Perkins on late 70s Wolverhampton. Staged in a listed Georgian townhouse, opposite the British Museum, the exhibition is a collaboration between Plinth, Magnum Photos and publisher Thames & Hudson.
